A Grand Day in Grande Dique

The first day of our Altlantic Adventure could not have been better.  After a long day of travel yesterday, it was nice to be able to take it slow and ease into our road trip.  The town of Shediac is a short drive from Karen and Sheldon's home, and it is where we saw the world's largest lobster.
After lunch,  we went from their home on the shore - which is on the bay just off the Shediac river, to their summer home 30 minutes away on the beach.  And there is a difference between the bay and the beach - one is muddy and the other is beautiful, soft sand.  This is where Karen spends most of her days in the summer, and it is easy to see why.

They wanted to give us an authentic maritime experience and that is a lobster boil.  First, before you get the lobsters, you have to go down to the beach and get enough sea water to fill the lobster pot. Next,  we went the fisherman's wharf 5 minutes away,  and Shelden selected 8 lobsters which had been caught this morning. Once back at camp, it's up to the guys to get the water boiling and lobsters in the pot.  That's my idea of a holiday! Karen and I put our bathing suits on and hit the beach.  Swimming in the Atlantic Ocean was on my to do list on this holiday.  I was surprised at how warm the water is.  Floating in the ocean and letting the waves carry me back toward shore is an experience I won't soon forget.

The correct way to eat lobster is cold, not hot with butter.  When it's cold it tastes its freshest, and you can taste the salt from the sea water in which it was cooked.  It doesn't get any fresher than this.

We could not have had a better day.  Thank you Karen and Sheldon for your warm and generous hospitality.
